World Radio Day

Today is World Radio Day, so we asked the Athene team to share the things they love most about radio!

So, here are our favourite aspects and stations. Warning: there are some guilty pleasures!

Enjoying some company

A lot of the team have said that they love listening to the radio on their way to and from work. From Classic FM to Radio 1, we all enjoy a bit of company from the radio on our travels.

When cooking dinner or pottering around the house, the radio is a great background noise and you can dip in and out of what the presenters are chatting about – or concentrate when PopMaster comes on!

Sports chats and coverage

A few of us spoke about our love for sports channels and shows. Tom enjoys listening to talkSPORT in the morning, what a great way to start his day!

The local channels are also a great way to tune into commentary to hear about how Peterborough United are getting on in their fixtures!

Discovering new music

The variety of genres and artists on the radio makes for an interesting listen, what song will come next you wonder. The radio is a great way to hear new tunes and discover new artists to fall in love with.

A love for old classics

Sometimes you can’t beat hearing old classics on the radio. When pop, disco and bass aren’t what you want after work, Smooth FM and Country FM (Rachel’s non-guilty pleasure) are there to help a few of the team out!

Learning new things

The radio is a great way to learn about new things and hear what’s going on in the world, things that you otherwise may miss out on.

It’s positive to see a new station has launched all about podcasts, The Podcast Radio. They’re a great way to learn and it’s very cool to see them broadcast on a dedicated station.
