My time at Athene – Beth Rogers

I started working for Athene Communications after completing my second year studying Linguistics at University College London (UCL). I feel it is important to make the most of the summer months, so after a relaxing two weeks in Croatia; I began my two months at Athene.

My time at Athene has flown by, and I will be sad to leave my team behind. Everyone at Athene was lovely, and immediately made me feel part of the team. I was invited to a number of social events, including a trip to Tolethorpe to see Much Ado About Nothing; which was great fun – even if the sun didn’t come out for our picnic! The social aspect of the office is a real draw to working here, all the staff are very friendly, fun, and fabulous – and on Fridays, we wear stripes!

As soon as I arrived I was able to get stuck in working on a number of projects for various clients within the education team. I had the chance to write website copy, write press releases, and manage social media accounts. I was also given an insight into other business areas such as internal comms and business development, which was invaluable for growing my knowledge. I also worked with designers on projects to develop prospectuses and websites. It is a great place to do work experience as you are really given the chance to learn on the job and really get your teeth into the work right away.

Now I have come to the end of my time at Athene, I am heading back to finish my final year at university. During my time in this lovely company, I have learnt a lot and made genuine friends, as well as further confirming my desire to pursue a career in communications.
