Engaging a city for riverside regeneration

Transforming the city’s south bank - £120 million Fletton Quays regeneration

Working with the Peterborough Investment Partnership (PIP), Athene Communications delivered an extensive pre-application consultation helping the Fletton Quays project to gain planning permission in December 2015.

0253_View_04-1920x1673PIP is an innovative joint venture formed in January 2015 by Peterborough City Council and the Lucent Strategic Land Fund, and brings together land acquisition capability, the understanding of the city’s needs and viability, with investment, planning and development expertise.

PIP aims to help support the sustained growth and development of local communities across Peterborough by creating new jobs, retail, housing and leisure facilities, and by generating funds that can be reinvested back into the community, making it an attractive place ‘to live, work and play’.

Fletton Quays is the first site that PIP has brought forward for development, and is vital to PIP’s aims for the city. The £120 million development will regenerate a long derelict 6.4 hectare site in the centre of Peterborough, delivering high quality homes, offices and leisure on the banks of the River Nene. The plans include the refurbishment of the existing Grade II Listed rail buildings and their incorporation into the scheme, providing a link to the heritage of the site whilst also meeting the community’s future needs.

Athene undertook a stakeholder and community audit which built on our already extensive knowledge of Peterborough. We then delivered a full consultation, communicating the proposals to key stakeholders and the wider community throughout the application process. This included key messages and branding, stakeholder briefing sessions, two public exhibitions, newsletter updates, a project website, social media and media briefings. We handled any difficult relationships with key local stakeholders and ensured that the positive messages were delivered and understood.

Athene is continuing to work with PIP, managing the ongoing public relations and community liaison service for the project as it is developed.
