New Year, New Jobs at Athene Communications

Athene Communications’ continued growth has led to two new appointments in 2013.

Babalola Salami and Matthew Bell have just joined the Peterborough-based PR and marketing agency on a six-month internship programme.

Babalola is a graduate of Mass Communication and also has a post-graduate degree in Marketing from the University of East Anglia. He has more thanfour years’ experience in international public relations and events management, working as a senior business executive for a PR and marketing firm in Nigeria.

He said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to work for such a close-knit company as Athene, where the team is professional, helpful and ambitious.

“Being here will give me the opportunity to grow professionally because I will be working with people who have a great deal of knowledge and experience.”

Eighteen-year-old Matthew Bell is a former Nene Park Academy student and said he is looking forward to gaining valuable experience within PR.

He said: “Joining a company like Athene, at such a young age, is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It will not only help me grow as a young person, but also develop and create key skills needed in a competitive job market.”

Athene Communications, based in Priestgate, Peterborough, was set up by Richard Astle, former Corporate Affairs Director for AMP Pearl, in 2003. The company has since grown to include more than 20 members of staff and associates.

Mr Astle said: “It is good news for Athene and for Peterborough that we are continuing to expand our services at a time when the economy generally is struggling.

“The appointment of Babalola and Matt again reiterates Athene’s ambition to grow and to build our client base nationally.

“We are particularly focusing on our community engagement services and our work with schools and academies, where we have seen considerable market growth recently.”
