The popular Swavesey half marathon is set to return to the streets of Swavesey on Sunday 3 March 2013.
Staff and students at Swavesey Village College, Gibraltar Lane, Swavesey will be re-launching the Swavesey half marathon and parallel five mile run and are inviting runners and fitness fanatics from across the region to sign-up now.
The half marathon and five mile fun run will take place on Sunday 3 March and will be open to all levels of runners. The five mile race is open to anyone over the age of 13 years, and the half marathon is available to anyone over 18 years old.
The course will start and end at Swavesey Village College and will take runners of all abilities through the picturesque village, through the inspiring RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes nature reserve and along the guided bus way and cycleway (although not on the bus way itself). Registration is now open and application forms and information can be found on-line at www.swaveseyhalfmarathon.org.uk.
Staff and students from the village college will be offering support on the day to the runners and event organisers and hope to make this event a great success.
Simon Russell, Race Director for the half marathon and Director of Sport at Swavesey Village College, said: “We are delighted to be working with our local community in re-launching the Swavesey half marathon. It’s important for students and the school in general, to see, support and facilitate participation in sport by adults from and beyond their community to ensure there are opportunities for young people to continue in their sporting activities.”
Entry fees for the half marathon will be £15 for affiliated members and £17 for non-affiliated members. The five mile race costs £3 for under-16s and £5 for 16 and over.
The funds raised by the Swavesey Half Marathon will go to support the school’s charities and a school rugby and hockey tour of South Africa.
Students that support the half marathon will be contributing towards their school ‘pledges’ initiative. The pledges respond to a range of activities that Swavesey Village College believe students should experience in order to develop the skills and confidence to complement their academic achievements. The pledges are Leadership, Participation, International, Charity, Environment, Volunteering and Excellence.
